Asperger’s Syndrome and High Functioning Autism (HFA)
The diagnostic world of Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism is one of constant change. Until recently, Asperger’s Syndrome was recognized as a separate diagnosis, but recently was wrapped into the Autism Spectrum. “Aspies” or “neuroatypicals” and even professionals, continue to use the term to describe their situation however. While High Functioning Autism (HFA) and Asperger’s have some overlap, they are viewed as separate.
People with HFA and Asperger’s are often highly intelligent, but struggle to understand common social interactions or detect emotions expressed by other people. This can create unique challenges as they struggle to cope with functioning in a world filled with “neurotypicals”.
Rob has over ten years of experience helping both adolescents and adults with Asperger’s. Whether you (or your child) have already been diagnosed, or are seeking an initial evaluation, Rob will help you understand Autism/HFA/Asperger’s Syndrome, and help you navigate the world of, and face the challenges of social interaction and relationships.
